MAC Satin Taupe Eyeshadow, Swatches and Review

This is my go-to everyday eyeshadow for the past 1.5 months, I'm in love! Satin Taupe is one of MAC's bestseller eyeshadow, and now I see why. It's simply described as "Taupe with silver shimmer" on MAC's website. For me, this color is more than that! First, it's neutral! It has some browns, some subtle purples, and very very fine silver shimmer that you can barely see, yet give enough glow to the eyes without any "shimmery feeling"! The color is not too light and not too dark, great pigmentation! It can be worn lightly for a day time look, or heavily for a night look! Since I love love love this shade so much, I usually like to wear it by itself all over the lids and blends out the color. With eyeliner and mascara and my eyes are complete :D

This is what the eyeshadow looks like after 1.5 month use :) I was so glad that I picked this one up after reading so many reviews! It looks brown here, but when applied on to the eyes, it's a gorgeous brownish taupe with a hint of purple and shimmer, very beautiful! It's not too warm or too cool tone, the cool tone super fine silver shimmer balances it so well! Very flattering ♥ As for the blendability, this is very easy to work with, with very very minimum fallout. Now on to swatches!

As you can see from the swatches above, even without primer or base, the pigmentation is pretty great, but with primer or base like paint pot, color was more intensified, and of course, longer lasting power!

Here I have some lovely comparisons from the taupe family:

Left: taupe shade from Wet n Wild Color Icon Silent Treatment Trio (review here),
Center: MAC Satin Taupe eyeshadow
Right: Iridescent Violet from Estee Laugder Pure Color eyeshadow quad (this is actually not really taupe, I might call it a taupe without brown in it :D it's more of a silvery plum shimmer with a satin finish, also very beautiful! I put it here just for comparison)

And here are the swatches:

All very pretty, right? Here you can see Satin Taupe show more brown, and dark enough to be a crease shade, but can also apply lightly for a lid shade. Lilac taupe from WnW is also very pretty, but not dark enough for crease, the texture is more powdery compared to MAC Satin Saupe and EL Iridescent Violet, and more fallout. EL Iridescent Violet is also a very beautiful cool tone silvery plum lid shade! All in all, I really love how Satin Taupe turned out on my eyes, and definitely will repurchase (if I ever run out ), highly recommend!

  1. I love MAC Satin Taupe! Wearing it now actually :). Great shadow for the crease that is neutral and buildable.
